Vapor Trail
The title track uses the metaphor of a vapor trail — the visible trace an aircraft leaves across the sky, beautiful but temporary — to explore how lives and memories fade. "Horizon to horizon / Memory written on the wind / Fading away like an hourglass, grain by grain."
It's one of the album's most poetic and moving songs, with the vapor trail serving as a perfect image for the impermanence that defines human existence. The arrangement is atmospheric and spacious, giving the lyrics room to breathe.
The song gives the album its name and its central metaphor: we leave traces of ourselves that eventually dissipate, but the act of living — of making those trails — is what matters.
