Peaceable Kingdom

Written in response to the September 11, 2001 attacks, which occurred during the album's recording sessions. The song addresses the shattering of safety and certainty, the "talk of a peaceable kingdom" that suddenly seemed impossibly naïve.

It was one of the earliest songs to emerge from the initial jam sessions, and still contains parts from the original takes. The collision of personal tragedy with collective national trauma gives the song a dual resonance.

The arrangement builds from quiet tension to cathartic release, mirroring the emotional trajectory of a world trying to process the unthinkable.
