The Larger Bowl (A Pantoum)

A meditation on inequality and the randomness of birth — some are born into the "larger bowl" of privilege while others struggle in smaller ones. The subtitle refers to the pantoum, a Malay poetic form where lines repeat in a specific pattern, which Peart follows precisely.

The arrangement features close vocal harmonies and a leading acoustic guitar phrase, creating an accessible, almost folk-rock feel unusual for Rush. It reached #16 on the Mainstream Rock chart.

Peart's use of a formal poetic structure to explore such a raw human theme exemplifies his late-career synthesis of craft and emotion.
