Hope

A solo acoustic guitar instrumental written and performed entirely by Lifeson on a Garrison 12-string with an unusual D-A-D-A-A-D tuning. The first full take was used for the album — mixing happened immediately after recording.

It was recorded in the Great Hall at Allaire Studios with rugs on the floor to control the room's natural echo. Lifeson wrote it during gaps when Lee was working on vocals, developing ideas from alternate tunings he'd been exploring at home.

At just two minutes, it's a jewel-like interlude — a moment of delicate beauty amid the album's heavier material. The title speaks for itself.
