In the Mood

Rush's first-ever single and arguably their most straightforward pop-rock song. The catchy riff and Geddy's playful vocal hook made it one of the more accessible tracks in their catalog.

Neil Peart, who arrived after this album, reportedly wasn't fond of performing the song live, finding the lyrics simplistic compared to his own writing. Despite this, the band occasionally brought it back as a cheeky crowd-pleaser during encores. It peaked at number 97 on the Billboard Hot 100 — a modest chart showing that was nonetheless significant for the fledgling band.

The song remains a fun piece of Rush archaeology, a snapshot of a time before Peart's arrival transformed the band's lyrical ambitions entirely.
