Leave That Thing Alone

Rush's third great instrumental (following "YYZ" and "Where's My Thing?") and a thematic sequel to the latter. The name continues the running joke, while the music is dead serious — a moody, noir-ish composition that sounds like the soundtrack to a sci-fi thriller.

Lee's bass work is absolutely phenomenal, with melodic lines that function almost as lead vocals. Peart's drumming is powerful yet restrained, and Lifeson's guitar creates atmospheric textures. It earned Rush's third Grammy nomination for Best Rock Instrumental Performance in 1994.

The track exemplifies what makes Rush's instrumentals special — they're not just showcases for technical ability, but genuine compositions with mood, narrative, and emotional arc.
