Cut to the Chase

A driving, impatient song about cutting through the noise and getting to what matters. The title is both literal advice and a meta-statement about the album's approach — no more synth layers, no more elaborate production, just three musicians playing with force and conviction.

The arrangement is heavy and direct, with some of Lifeson's most assertive playing on the album. The guitar riffs carry an almost metallic edge that reflects the influence of the harder rock landscape of the early 1990s.

It's one of the tracks that best demonstrates the Kevin Shirley effect — the raw, room-filling sound that gave Rush's playing a physical presence they hadn't had in years.
