Headlong Flight
The album's most autobiographical track — a thinly veiled look back at Rush's own career. The protagonist reflects on a life lived at full speed, with all its triumphs and disasters, and declares he wouldn't change a thing. The chorus — "I wish that I could live it all again" — is as close to a career summary as Rush ever offered.
Musically, it's a powerhouse that recalls the band's most progressive work, with extended instrumental sections and complex arrangements that demonstrate they could still play at the highest level. The opening riff pays deliberate homage to "Bastille Day" from 1975.
As a statement from three musicians in their late fifties, "Headlong Flight" is extraordinary — not nostalgia, not a victory lap, but an assertion that the fire still burns. It became an instant concert classic.
