Caravan
The album opener introduces the young protagonist leaving his village of Barrel Arbor to find his destiny. The caravan represents both literal travel and the journey of life — setting out with dreams and ambition into an unknown world.
One of two songs released in 2010, a full two years before the album. Road-testing it on the Time Machine tour gave the band confidence in the album's direction and built anticipation among fans.
The arrangement is expansive and cinematic, with string arrangements that immediately signal this is a Rush album unlike any before it. It's a beginning in every sense — the start of a story, the launch of an adventure.
